Looking for a Galapagos style experience but for a more affordable price? The Mantarraya Lodge is located in the Machallila National Park and contains comfortable Mediterranean style villas complete with a bar, swimming pool and terrace to gaze at the magnificent sunsets. Just offshore from the lodge is the famous Isla de la Plata which is physically and biologically very similar to the Galapagos Islands.
Day 1: Flight from Quito to Manta or Portoviejo.
Arrival and immediate departure by bus to Machalilla National Park, visiting on the way the Montecristi village, famous “Panama Hats” manufacturers. Accommodation at Mantaraya Lodge. Lunch and in the afternoon, visit to the Salango Museum. Back to the hotel, briefing and dinner.
Day 2: Full day visit to Isla de la Plata.
The coral reef around the Isla de la Plata and on the adjacent coast is the only coral reef off mainland Ecuador. This coral reef can be explored with scuba or snorkel gear. A spectacular biodiversity of underwater marine life exists because the Humboldt current flowing from the south meets the northbound warm El Niño current. Big game fishing is great too, with world records for marlins and other coastal species caught here. Box lunch.
Sailing back to Puerto López to Mantaraya Lodge, briefing and dinner.
Day 3: Visit to Agua Blanca
Visit to the archaeological Museum of Agua Blanca. Lunch. Visit to Los Frailes beach (snorkel). Back to Mantaraya Lodge, briefing and dinner.
Day 4: Ayampe River Rain Forest
After breakfast, visit to Ayampe River rain forest. Lunch and early departure by bus to Portoviejo or Manta to take the return flight to Quito.
