Day 1: El Calafate - El ChaltenArrival in El Calafate. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to Chalten via regular bus. On arrival you will be met and taken to your hotel.
Overnight El Chalten.
Day 2: Trekking to Laguna Torre
Today we do a full day hike along the Cerro Torre trail to Laguna Torre, a stunning mountain lake with the majestic Mount Torre in the background. We set off after breakfast walking eastwards following the trail through beech forests towards Fitz Roy river. We continue towards Base Camp de Agostini and then do a short hike to Laguna Torre, admiring the western view of Cerro Torre and the Adela range. Icebergs can be seen peacefully floating on Laguna Torre as the wind pushes them towards the coast. We stop at various points to appreciate the magnificent view and enjoy a picnic. Later, we return to Chalten following the same trail.
Upon our return, we are free to enjoy a delicious dinner at one of Chalten’s cozy restaurants before heading back to our hotel from the previous night.
Day 3: Trekking to Lago de los Tres
Today starts with a beautiful 18 kilometre drive up the valley to Hosteria Pilar, from where we trek through sub-Antarctic forest and pass the small glacier lake named Piedras Blancas. From here the route crosses the Rio Blanco before you begin the toughest part of your trek - a fifty minute climb that weaves its way up a 45º slope. From the top of the climb you can see glacial Laguna de Los Tres with one of Patagonia's most majestic panoramic vistas. We then return to Chalten on foot via a different route.
Overnight El Chalten.
Day 4: Trekking to Pliegue Tumbado & Transfer to Calafate
Today we’ll do a short morning trek along the Pliegue Tumbado trail. After an hour trekking up the hill we’ll reach Mirador de las Carretas with an excellent view of Cerro Torre and the best sights around Mount Fitzroy. We return to Chalten to gather our luggage and begin the journey back to Calafate. We’re dropped off at the terminal to board the midday bus (in April we take the afternoon bus), following the same road lined with Argentinean pampas that welcomed us upon our arrival. We arrive in El Calafate in the afternoon with plenty of time to rest, walk around town and look for a nice place to have dinner before heading back to out Calafate hotel.
Day 5: Moreno Glacier
Today we drive into Parque Nacional Los Glaciares for views of the stunning Moreno Glacier. This huge glacier is more than 3 miles wide and over 20 stories high - a true highlight of Patagonia. Includes entrance to the park.
Overnight Calafate.
