Experience the Mayans, Markets, landscapes and archaeological sites that these neighbouring countries have to offer. Pick up a traditional handicraft or stroll through the Mayan museums and enjoy the cultures of Central America before spending a few nights on the beautiful island of Roatan.
Day 1: Guatemala City
On arrival you will be met at Guatemala City International Airport and transferred to your hotel in Guatemala City’s finest district with the afternoon and evening to spend at your leisure. Overnight in Guatemala City.
Day 2: Guatemala - Chichicastenago: Breakfast
Depart early to Chichicastenango, where there is by far the largest and most colourful handicrafts market in The Americas. Every Thursday and Sunday, Maya people from all over Guatemala meet to sell their products and visit the town’s Catholic Church, Santo Tomas, to pray in their own way becoming the best example of syncretism of the Maya and Catholic traditions (note that if your tour date doesn't coincide with market day the tour can be rearranged to do this). Overnight in Chichicastenango.
Day 3: Chichicastenango - Lake Atitlan: Breakfast
Transfer to Lake Atitlan, visiting en route the indigenous market of Sololá, a market that provides an interesting contrast with the one from the day before, because it is a market for the local people themselves with very few tourists around. There will be time to walk around famous Santander street in Panajachel which sits in an idyllic location overlooking Lake Atitlan and 3 huge volcano’s; San Pedro, Atitlan and Toliman. Overnight in Panajachel.
Day 4: Santiago Atitlan & Antigua: Breakfast
An interesting geological formation, Atitlan is a lake of volcanic origin, located at 5,000 feet above sea level and surrounded by 3 imposing volcanoes and in the heart of the Living Maya culture. This morning we do a boat tour to visit Santiago Atitlan, a town located below San Pedro volcano which is famous for naïf paintings and wood carvings.
Afternoon transfer to Antigua for your overnight stay.
Day 5: Antigua: Breakfast
Antigua Guatemala is an Unesco World Heritage Site due to the incredibly well preserved Spanish Colonial heritage. Founded in 1542, it was for over 200 years the Capital of Central America. Morning walking tour to visit to its most important palaces, plazas, churches and convents. Free afternoon to explore this romantic town on your own.
Day 6: Antigua - Tikal National Park: Breakfast
Day 7: Tikal - Copan: Breakfast
This day we depart early in the morning from Flores to the town of Copan. The trip will take all morning and upon arrival to Copan, we will check-in at the hotel. If you still have the energy you can visit the famous local bar of El Tunkul, if not we will see you tomorrow early in the morning.
Day 8: Copan: Breakfast
We will spend all day at Copan. Our guide will give you a walking tour of the main archaeological site, including the acropolis, the ball court, the hieroglyphic stairway and the great plaza of the stelaes; as well as of the new majestic Museum of Mayan Sculpture, acclaimed by experts as unique in the Mayan World. A masterpiece within the museum is the exact size replica of the famed Rosa Lila Temple, discovered in 1989 perfectly preserved underground. If time is available in the afternoon we will visit the small museum in town which is a perfect complement to what you have seen in the morning.
Day 9: Copan - Roatan: Breakfast
Morning check-out and transfer to San Pedro Sula Airport in order to catch a flight early in the afternoon to Roatan, flight will be via La Ceiba. Upon arrival transfer to your hotel with the evening to spend at your leisure.
Day 10: Roatan: Breakfast
A day to spend at your own pace exploring Roatan.
Day 11: Roatan – San Pedro: Breakfast
Morning transfer to airport in order to catch flight to San Pedro Sula Airport where your tour ends. You can easily add on more nights in Roatan if you’d prefer some more time to relax.
