Nicaragua is truly the land of lakes and volcanos! This tour takes you from the capital Managua to a coffee plantation in the highlands, before continuing through the colonial towns of Granada and Leon. Of course along the way you'll visit the largest lake in Latin America and see Nicaragua's spectacular volcanos. This tour can easily be amended to be combined with Costa Rica so if you're interested in this please just ask one of our consultants.

Day 1: Managua Arrival

Arrival at Nicaragua International Airport, Managua, where you will be greeted and transferred to you hotel. 

Day 2: Managua - Selva Negra:
Breakfast and Lunch

Enjoy breakfast before heading to the Selva Negra Mountain Lodge located in the central highlands of Nicaragua. On your way our tour guide will take you on a Managua city tour which includes visits to Acahualinca Indian tracks, Ruben Dario Theatre, Peace Park and other interesting places that are part of the history of Nicaragua. After lunch in a local restaurant, the trip continues to the Matagalpa area before we arrive late in the afternoon at the Selva Negra Mountain Lodge inside the so called 'Black Forest of Nicaragua'. Selva Negra is a sustainable coffee plantation and you will spend 2 nights here enjoying the activities available including horse hiking, trekking, bird watching and of course coffee!


Day 3: Selva Negra: Coffee Tour:
Breakfast

After breakfast, commence a morning coffee tour at Selva Negra where you will visit the plantation to see how coffee grows and also how it is harvested and processed. Afternoon at leisure to explore or partake in an optional activity.


Day 4: Selva Negra - Leon:
Breakfast and Lunch
 
Following breakfast, your day will be full of different experiences of Nicaraguan History. First, visit the Chorotega Museum in which you will have the chance to enjoy more than 1000 pieces of Pre Columbian Indigenous art that varies from 500BC and 500 AC. Continue your day to the colonial city of Leon for a city tour and overnight.

Day 5: Leon - Granada:
Breakfast

After breakfast, depart to the Ruins of Old Leon – declared in 2000 as a World Heritage site by UNESCO. These ruins are the only remains of the original city which was evacuated in the 1600's after the nearby Momotombo volcano erupted. After this visit we continue to the colonial city of Granada, the oldest colonial city in Central America. The rest of the day will be spent at leisure with overnight in Granada.


Day 6: Granada: Lake Nicaragua & Masaya Volcano National Park:
Breakfast and Lunch
 
Start the day with breakfast before a tour of Granada and its surrounding areas. We start with a boat trip to Lake Nicaragua, the largest freshwater lake in Latin America before we continue to Masaya Volcano National Park and the Masaya Market where you will find unique pieces of local art. After we visit the town where Augusto Sandino was born to learn why this revolutionary man has been so important in the history of Nicaragua.

Day 7: Granada: Mombacho Volcano Natural Reserve:
Breakfast

After breakfast we enjoy a half day tour to Mombacho Volcano natural reserve. On arrival in the park we will switch vehicles and start our way up to the top in a four wheel drive. Expect to be surrounded by exuberant vegetation whilst enjoying breathtaking views of the surrounding areas and the cloud forest below. You will then take to the many walking trails for the next 2 hours where you'll learn a lot about the flora, the fauna, the ancient people who lived there and the history of the volcano. If the day is clear enough, we will visit an impressive viewpoint to observe the plain pacific region of Nicaragua, the neighbouring city of Granada and the great lake of Nicaragua and its islands. When we return from our walk, we will visit the biological station where you can enjoy a cup of coffee or a snack before being transported back to the foot of the mountain.


Day 8: Granada - Managua:
Breakfast

After breakfast transfer from Granada city to International Airport at Managua.
