Within striking distance of Iguazu Falls, Yacutinga is an environmentally-friendly lodge and Private Wildlife Nature Reserve, in the heart of the Argentine Rainforest, surrounded by the Iguazú National Park. Away from the tourism mecca of the Falls, and with a real commitment to eco-tourism, you are sure to see why this lodge was voted one of the very best in South America ... and to be very reluctant to leave!
Day 1: Yacutinga Lodge: Arrival: Dinner
Your adventure begins in the afternoon, when you are picked up from Puerto Iguazu by an Expedition Truck and driven through Urugua-I Provincial Park and areas of forest which have been cleared for Yerba mate plantations. During the trip, the Guide will explain the importance of and challenges to the conservation of this rainforest environment.
Upon arrival at the Lodge we welcome you and show you to your comfortable and originally-designed suite. Common areas include a restaurant, bars and pool, all of which are in perfect balance with the surrounding nature.
After dinner, we take an atmospheric night walk through the subtropical rainforest to enjoy the incredible sounds, in the company of extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic guides.
Day 2: Yacutinga Lodge: All meals
After an early breakfast, we walk through the forest to the San Francisco stream, where we board canoes for a leisurely paddle down this tributary of the majestic Iguazu River. With the expert help of a guide and 'spotter', we can enjoy the flora and fauna of this peaceful, unspoilt corner of the world, at a time of day when the rainforest is coming to life.
Upon our return to the Lodge, we have a leisurely lunch, then perhaps take a swim; or just observe the colourful butterflies which abound or watch the beautiful humming birds as they search for nectar.
Then, in mid-afternoon, again in the company of expert guide and wildlife 'spotter', we can enjoy a wander along some of the many trails through the rainforest, with frequent stops to learn more about the flora and fauna and to catch a glimpse of various species in their natural habitat. Dusk is a particularly good time for wildlife-spotting.
Once it is getting dark, we return to the Lodge for dinner.
Day 3: Yacutinga Lodge: Breakfast & Box lunch
After breakfast, you have free time to explore some of our self-guided interpretation trails, or simply enjoy the Lodge area.
Mid-morning, we set off back to Puerto Iguazú, arriving in the early afternoon.
This tour works extremely well with a trip to Iguazu Falls. Or could be incorporated in our Buenos Aires to Rio trip.
For the keen naturalist, you may want to compare and contrast the fascinating ecology here with that of the Pantanal or the Amazon, in Brazil.
