‘It’s the only place in the world where the wildlife comes to you’ our Naturalist guide had said.
It wasn’t until I saw seal pups lazing about the sandy beaches of the Galapagos Islands, did I realise this truly was paradise on earth.
My first taste of South America was in the colourful country of Ecuador. I had the pleasure of visiting a number inspiring places, such as the Ecuadorean Amazon, the Galapagos Islands, colonial Quito and the majestic Chimborazo volcano.
No two days were ever the same, one moment I could be having lunch with the locals deep in the Amazon Rainforest, next I would be stargazing underneath the blazing night sky aboard an elegant cruise in the Galapagos. It’s hard to pick a favourite moment or destination! One thing that’s hard to forget is the food. The food was unbelievably delicious to say the least. From adding popcorn in your potato soup to trying giant worms in the Amazon, Ecuador was one mouth-watering adventure (maybe not the worms as much). If you are foodie, then Ecuador is a must!
Travelling to any destination in Latin America is more than what meets the eye! I was lucky enough to also visit the Guayasamin Museum in the capital Quito. His work featured both the struggles and triumphs of Indigenous Latin Americans. Having studied history and anthropology, I found it a thought-provoking experience. This is what I enjoy with my work for Chimu Adventures, marketing unique tailor-made experiences and destinations that get off the beaten track!
