La Selva has become a private reserve, and thanks to the contracts that have been signed with the community of Pilchi, hunting and fishing have been greatly reduced, as has the cutting down of trees. La Selva has an agreement to pay the community a monthly wage, plus participate in special projects such as construction of sewing centres, sanitary facilities and schools; as well as health care and transportation projects, in exchange for the use of the land that borders La Selva.
From its beginnings 25 years ago, La Selva has embarked on a journey of outreach and community service to Pilchi and other communities along the Napo River, as well as projects that directly aid the planet in the true spirit of ecotourism.
In addition, the new cabins have been constructed with fast growing bamboo from plantations.
