UNESCO World Heritage Listed Easter Island is a remote volcanic island that lies in the Pacific Ocean some 3,700kms to the west of Chile. One of the most isolated places on earth and one of the most remote inhabited islands in the world, Easter Island (Rapa Nui) is famed for its archaeological sites that include around 900 moai statues. These carved human figures were created during the 10th-16th centuries and many are found resting on massive rock altars.

Embark on a journey to the south coast to explore representative examples of unreconstructed platforms, starting with Ahu Vaihu in the picturesque bay of Hanga Te’e, and then moving on to Akahanga, believed to be the burial site of the renowned King Hotu Matua. Continue to Rano Raraku, the quarry boasting almost 900 stone statues, with 397 still positioned on the slopes of the extinct volcano, surrounding the crater lake.

Next, behold the grandeur of Ahu Tongariki, the most recent and largest restoration on the island, featuring 15 Moais. Drive towards the east coast to visit Ahu Te Pito Kura, known as the “Navel of the World.” Conclude your exploration with a visit to the beach of Anakena, adorned with restored Ahus Nau Nau and Ature Huke. Take advantage of the opportunity to bask in the warmth of the Pacific Ocean before returning to your hotel.

Today, we begin our journey to the Orongo village, situated on the edge of the extinct volcano Rano Kau. This village, comprising 54 stone houses, was once a ceremonial center for the birdman culture from the 16th century until its abandonment in the mid-19th century. Amidst its stunning natural surroundings, the site is adorned with numerous petroglyphs depicting the tangata manu, or birdman. Today, you'll have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the captivating views and enthralling stories and legends that abound in this truly magical place.

We proceed to Ahu Akivi, a site adorned with seven remarkable moai sculptures. Towering at nearly 4.5 meters, these statues are thought to represent the seven young explorers sent to explore the island prior to the arrival of Horu Matu and his people. Our exploration also includes a visit to the Pun-a-Pau quarry, where the distinctive Pukao cylindrical hats originated. Weighing between nine and twenty tonnes, these cylinders, measuring 1 to 2 meters, were ingeniously rolled downhill to their respective moai sites.
