Day 1 (Friday): Manatee Amazon Explorer
Arrival in Coca where we transfer you to the Napo River port where a motorised canoe will be waiting for you to take you downstream towards the Manatee Amazon Explorer.
Upon arrival, we will welcome you and settle you into one of the 13 weather pointed cabins which will be your home for the next 3 nights.
Day 2 (Saturday): Limoncocha Biological Reserve
An optional early departure by motor canoe takes us on a visit to the clay banks of the river, where different species of parrots gather daily. The clay helps them to digest the seeds they feed on and makes for an unforgettably colourful and noisy spectacle.
Once back on board, we sail upriver and reach one of the tributaries of the Napo to observe the flora and fauna including the surprising pygmy monkeys! Later we trek to what used to be South America's Summer Institute of Linguistics in Limoncocha, currently the only Biological Reserve of Ecuador.
Day 3 (Sunday): Napo River: Museum of Pompeya
Today we visit the Museum of Pompeya, a small archaeological collection with Amazonian funeral urns that date back several centuries, as well as utensils and examples of the way of life of the ancient denizens of the rain forest, which can still be seen today.
We will also have the opportunity to see the giant trees of the Amazon, like the kapok, which grow more than 40 meters in height, with huge, protruding roots.
We will also be given the opportunity to try rowing the canoes on a tranquil tributary of the Napo River to the house of a native family, to share a moment with them and to learn their ways of life.
Day 4 (Monday): Manatee Amazon Explorer - Coca
While the Manatee navigates upriver, the guides continue our education abuot the great Amazon region.
After docking, you will be transferred back to the airport for your return flight to Quito.
End of Services.
Should you wish to take another cruise, but prefer the open seas, why not try one of our Galapagos cruises?
Or, why not try our Sacha Amazon Lodge tour, to experience a different side of the Amazon?
