A shorter 5-day option of the famous W trek including the mighty Torres Del Paine!
This short version of the W trek will take you on trails reaching amazing glaciers, lakes, forests and the mighty Paine Towers, providing constant delight to your trekking-hungry soul!
Day 1: Punta Arenas - Eco Camp, Torres del Paine
This morning we pick you up from your Punta Arenas hotel or the airport. (Optional pick up can be arranged from Calafate)
From Punta Arenas we drive to the amazing Eco Camp located in world famous Torres del Paine National Park. Before arriving though, there are a couple stops. One is at Puerto Natales, a small but lively town on the shores of Seno Ultima Esperanza, where will enjoy a hearty lunch with delicious, local food.
The other stop is at Cueva de Milodon, a massive prehistoric cave where the remains of a giant ground sloth were discovered in the 1890s.
The day ends with dinner and accommodation inside the Torres del Paine National Park at the Eco Camp, in a standard dome.
Day 2: Torres Del Paine - Valle Frances
After breakfast, we start our day driving through the Torres del Paine National Park towards Pudeto Dock, located by the shores of Pehoe Lake. Once there, we board the catamaran that will take us to the northern west sector of the lake from where we will start the challenging trek to Valle Frances (French Valley). There is time to have a picnic and recover from the walk.
An optional trek to Mirador Britanico is available as well.
Next, we descend through undulating terrain of mixed grassland and light forest until we reach the Refugio Paine Grande, where we will have dinner and spend the night.
Day 3: Torres del Paine - Glacier Grey
Today we’ll hike from Refugio Paine Grande along the shores of mountain-lined Lake Pehoe to the Northern end of glacial Lake Grey.
We’ll enjoy a picnic lunch before boarding the boat that sails to the blue face of Glacier Grey. You’ll have lots of time to marvel at this glacier before the boat ride across Lake Grey, amongst floating pieces of ice.
From Lake Grey’s southern end we transfer to the Eco Camp.
NB. If the weather conditions do not allow us to navigate Lake Grey, we’ll instead hike to Glacier Grey; then at Pudeto we’ll board the catamaran to cross Lake Pehoe. From there, we’ll take a short drive back to the Eco Camp, where we’ll enjoy the night in a standard dome.
Day 4: The Great Challenge: The Mighty Torres del Paine
After breakfast we will embark on our mission to complete the most famous trekking trail in Torres del Paine National Park. We walk from the Eco Camp towards Hostería Las Torres and connect with the winding uphill path to scenic Ascencio Valley.
Next there will be a steep trail until the magnificent Towers come into full view, rising majestically before us with the glacial lake visible below. This is one of the most breathtaking sights of the world! Here we have lunch.
Once everyone is ready, we backtrack along the same trail to the Eco Camp to relax after quite a day.
Day 5: Torres del Paine - Punta Arenas
We board an early morning vehicle and sit back, relax, and enjoy a scenic ride back to Punta Arenas in time to catch the evening flight.
NB: Departures to and from Calafate can also be arranged for no extra cost.
