Madidi National Park, in the upper Amazon river basin in Bolivia, boasts some of the highest biodiversity on earth, including over 1,000 bird species, as well as endemic plant and mammal species. This three day tour gives an excellent-value, jungle experience, staying at the San Miguel del Bala Ecolodge, which has been built from sustainable rainforest materials, following traditional local designs, and makes a wonderful base from which to enjoy this area.
Day 1: La Paz – Rurrenebaque
This morning we transfer you to the airport for the short flight to Rurrenabaque followed by a boat trip along the Beni River to arrive at the San Miguel del Bala Ecolodge.
Once we have checked in, we take a short boat ride and hike along a stream to swim and relax in a natural pool fed by a waterfall. We walk to the San Miguel Community to experience ethnic Tacana architecture, cooking, customs and handicrafts. (Lunch and dinner included).
Day 2: Rurrenebaque: San Miguel del Bala Ecolodge
Today we take a boat trip to Caquiawara, within the Madidi National Park, to watch macaws, walk in the forest in search of animal trails and to learn about ancestral hunting techniques; and to try our hand at fishing.
In the evening, we take a night walk through the jungle to see (or just hear!) nocturnal animals.
We overnight at the San Miguel del Bala Ecolodge where all meals are provided.
Day 3: Rurrenebaque – La Paz
This morning, we hike through primary forest where we visit areas with lots of fruit and salty soil that attracts animals. We end in a long narrow canyon with astounding rock formations.
We then transfer back to Rurrenabaque Airport for the flight to La Paz.
On arrival in La Paz, we take you to your hotel for the night.
