Chimu focuses on Rainforest Expeditions as their ‘Sustainable Feature of the Month’ in September.

September – Rainforest Expeditions, Peru.

Chimu Adventures, The Latin America and Polar Travel Specialists, have chosen Rainforest Expeditions in the Peruvian Amazon as September’s ‘Sustainable Feature of the Month.’ This new Chimu initiative, launched in August 2019, highlights the outstanding environmental, socially responsible and cultural credentials of a selected property or experience.

Founded in 1989, Rainforest Expeditions is a Peruvian organisation which links guests with the Tambopata National Reserve in the Peruvian Amazon via immersive cultural and natural experiences in the area. They operate three luxurious rainforest ecolodges within the reserve, all of which can be booked via Chimu, and their aim is to show guests just how vital this mighty forest is environmentally and for indigenous communities.

One of Rainforest Expedition’s sustainability measures which Chimu has commended this month is the opportunity for children to stay free of charge at one of their ecolodges. As part of a campaign named ‘Born to Protect,’ Rainforest Expeditions are offering complimentary accommodation to children aged between one and 12 years when travelling with two adults between now and 31st March 2020. Chimu and Rainforest Expeditions see this as a unique chance to show the future generation essential conservation and sustainability in action, sparking their interest in these paramount subjects from an early age.

While at the lodge, families can participate in locally guided activities such as Esa Eja native community survival techniques (jungle raft building); discovering the unique colours, flavours and traditions of the Amazon on a visit to a jungle farm; a night walk in the forest to meet the creatures that emerge after dark; and a dedicated ‘Children’s Trail’ which has been designed inspire a sense of adventure and love of nature. Led by specially trained guides, this trail connects children with nature, life in the jungle and the need to preserve this via the story of ‘Ania’ – an imaginary girl living in the rainforest.

Chimu’s Marketing Manager, Meg Hall, took her children to the Amazon when they were aged six and nine and can attest to the tangible educational benefits of introducing the natural world to young people: “Being in the epicentre of nature’s heartbeat surrounded by a plethora of flora and fauna with my two young sons was education that no school or university could ever offer. Learning, in real time, how nature works and depends on each other really put the entire planet into perspective for the boys. They walked away with a deep love and respect for nature, our home and the future of mother earth.”

The majority of Chimu’s Destination Specialists have travelled to the Amazon so can tailor the above experiences according to individual client needs, organising all domestic and international travel.

Terms and conditions for the ‘Born to Protect’ campaign apply. Valid for passengers travelling between now and 31st March 2020. One child per two adults is permitted free of charge when sharing a room with their parents. Available for children aged one to 12 years old.
