Pass It On

At Chimu Adventures we believe it is our duty to pass on our knowledge and support to benefit the local communities we work with. As  as result of our hard work we have gained recognition from the most respected names in the travel industry, including responsibletravel.com, infohub.com and the South American Explorers Club.

Chimu Adventures was set up with the vision to support and help develop local communities within Latin America.  By working with NGO's throughout Latin America, in particular Peru, our aim is to empower local communities to help them develop their own infrastructure for the future. We support sustainable tourism by using local hotels and suppliers, as well as local guides on all tours, ensuring you benefit from the intimate knowledge, passion and culture of the country you’re visiting

Since 2006, we have been working with Kiva (a well-known Non-Governmental Organisation), providing hundreds of loans to local businesses all over South America. With access to these loans, local people in need can create better lives for themselves and their families.

Take 44 year old Juanita from Peru for example. A loan of $1,125 helped her afford maintenance for her vehicles and buy replacement parts. Depending on the season, she plants potatoes, gladioli, lettuce, peas, spinach and others. She has managed to obtain better living conditions for herself and her family and although Juanita is happy with what she has achieved so far, she wants to keep growing.

As well as this, every year we pass on a portion of our profits to charity - a big commitment to the areas in which we operate. We currently work with three charities: Project Peru (www.projectperu.org.uk), LATA Foundation (www.latafoundation.org) and World Vision (www.worldvision.com.au).

A huge and heartfelt ‘gracias’ to all of you who continue to offer such generous support, loyalty and friendship – thank you for helping ensure that our little refuge continues to be one of the happiest places that many people from all worlds have experienced. Thank you for jumping on the roller coaster that is Project Peru and for making it possible for us to transform awareness into action and commitment.”(Carole Hudson and the Project Peru committee)

Our work has been recognised by the Australia Latin America Business Council, who awarded us with an Excellence Award for our commitment to Latin America, growing local economies and giving back to the community.
