You will be collected from your hotel at the appropriate time and transferred to the airport for your onward flight.

Transfer to the airport for onward destination

Today you will be welcomed at Juliaca airport and transferred to Titilaka Lodge via the port city of Puno. Titilaka Lodge is an exclusive refuge set on a remote private peninsula on the shores of Lake Titicaca. On arrival at the Lodge and having checked-in, there is time to rest, and enjoy the scenery as you acclimatise. Lunch is based on the region’s local cuisine. A siesta and plenty of liquids are recommended to help you acclimatise to the altitude.
Later in the day there is an excursion by boat as you are rowed through the reeds near the Lodge. Enjoy the beautiful landscape as you look out for some of the interesting endemic birds found in the region.

Arrival & Acclimatisation

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast and choose from one of the excursions near the hotel. One option is a walk along the hotel’s peninsula and the shores of the lake, taking you past sandy beaches, thick reeds and lush marshes to reach a local community in the countryside. Here you will be able to see their traditional agrarian and fishing lifestyle.

Later in the day you can cycle through the fields of Plateria, following country roads alongside the grand lake and across diverse terrains. Here you will see the local villager’s rural way of life.

Lake Surroundings Exploration

Titilaka’s clear skies and serenity make it the perfect place to observe the stars at night. And what better way to do so than beside a bonfire, first watching the sun go down over the lake’s horizon and then the fall of night? Wrap up warmly before stepping outside to the lodge gardens where your guide will help you locate constellations such as the Wawawara Hawira, or Milky Way and teach you about Andean Cosmological beliefs, passed down over hundreds of generations.

Sundowner in Titilaka

After breakfast and check-out you will be transferred to the airport, train or bus station for your journey to Cusco. Optional visit to Sillustani archaeological site on the way to the airport. Please contact your travel consultant.

Departure

On arrival into the Cusco Poroy Train Station you will be transferred to your hotel in the city.

Arrival transfer in Cusco

Cusco, set at an altitude of 3,400 metres in the Peruvian Andes, was once the capital of the Inca Empire. It is known for its Spanish colonial architecture and Incan remains. Narrow, cobble-stoned streets lined by Inca walls stretch out from the main plaza in every direction. Many of the colonial buildings were built on top of Incan foundations and the stonework is unparalleled in its precision and beauty.

Cusco

You will be collected from your hotel for a private sightseeing tour through Cusco, the heart of the Inca Empire. Visit the fascinating Qorikancha Temple of the Sun, the 12-Angled Rock and the Cathedral, built on the ruins of an Inca Palace. From here head to the archaeological remains located around the city, including the fortress of Sacsayhuaman, Qenqo (giant rock), the ancient site of Puca Pucara and finally the Water Temple of Tambomachay. On completion of your tour, you will be taken to your hotel. Included in your tour price is the BTG (Tourist Ticket of Cusco) which allows you entrance into 16 attractions around Cusco in ten days.

Cusco - City Tour

Today, explore the Sacred Valley of the Incas. This fertile river valley was home to many important sites for the Incas, both strategic and religious. The first stop is the village of Pisac, with its famous market and Inca Ruins. There is free time to wander the colourful market stalls before heading uphill to the Pisac, Intihuatana, Q’allaqasa and Kinchiracay ruins. Enjoy a fine buffet lunch in gardens overlooking the Valley.

Continue your journey along the River Urubamba, to Ollantaytambo. The town, which is dominated by a giant Inca fortress, is perhaps the best surviving example of Inca town planning and was the scene of a rare Inca victory over the invading Spanish. Transfer to your hotel for the night or should you be returning to Cusco, visit Chinchero en route, an important Inca town with a colonial church and plaza.

Breakfast & lunch included.

Renewing vows in Sanctuary Lodge

You will be astonished by your first view of Machu Picchu, a stunning display of ancient architecture with incredible surroundings. Machu Picchu is a 15th century Inca site, located 2,430 metres above sea level on a mountain ridge above the Sacred Valley. It is the most famous of all Inca sites, but it was not until 1911 that it was brought to the world’s attention by the American historian Hiram Bingham. The Incas abandoned the city just prior to Spanish colonisation, the city was never pillaged and as a result the ruins are still in fantastic condition. With its location on a dramatic ridgeline surrounded by sheer cliffs and the Urubamba River on three sides, the city of Machu Picchu is a remarkable place to visit. Machu Picchu was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983 and in 2007 it was voted one of the new Seven Wonders of the World.

Enjoy a tour of the ruins and monuments, such as the Main Square, the Circular Tower, the Sacred Solar Clock, the Royal Quarters, the Temple of the Three Windows and the Cemeteries.

The tour includes guided tour with local English speaking guide and return bus from Aguas Calientes village. Please be aware that your tour of Machu Picchu does not include an entry permit to Huayna Picchu (the iconic hill behind the Machu Picchu ruins). If you want to climb Huayna Picchu then you need to pre-book your permit at least 3 months in advance. Please contact your sales consultant if you would like to do this.

Transfer to the airport for onward destination

On arrival at Iquitos airport, there will be a group transfer by comfortable private vehicle over paved road to the city of Nauta, 95 kilometres away. Nauta is literally the "end of the road" where you will embark the Delfin. Along the way, you will see vibrant "terra firma" (non-flooded forest) and various aspects of daily jungle life.

Aboard Delfin, you will be greeted by our qualified staff who will introduce you to your exquisite and cosy suite, specially equipped with amenities to ensure a comfortable stay such as orthopedic beds, pure cotton sheets, pillows of 100% pure natural latex, cotton bathrobes, air conditioning, and private bathroom with Spanish style hot water showers. Each cabin features a spacious private terrace where you can sit and enjoy the scenery.

Arrival

On your first morning aboard the Delfin, we recommend getting up early to appreciate one of the most important zones of the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. Early rising is always rewarding since wildlife is most abundant and active with the rising of the sun. The walk along the Fundo Casual jungle trail will take you deep into the rainforest on terra firma (non-flooded forest) where your guide will point out the dynamic creatures and vegetation of the Amazon. You will even have the opportunity to swim in the jungle river along with the famous pink dolphins!

Fundo Casual and Dorado River

We begin the morning with an adventurous journey to visit to a private reserve complete with 8 hanging bridges high up in the rainforest canopy. To get there, we will walk through primary forest and paddle slowly across tranquil Tahuampa Lake, a black water lagoon with giant arapaima fishes (known locally as paiche) and with luck, you might hear them jumping up to breathe the crisp dawn air. The suspension bridges will give you a peek into the life high up in the treetops for many of the Amazon's animals, accompanied by a symphony of sounds.

After a delicious lunch, we visit Jacinto Cocha, a black water lagoon, or Nauta Caño Creek where you will have the chance to do some kayaking and go fishing for the famous piranha, a delightful and challenging experience that you won't forget!

As night approaches, your guide will take you on a night safari in search of caiman alligators and night birds.

Amazon Park, Jacinto Cocha & Nauta Cano

On board the ship’s skiffs, we will visit the community of San Francisco to meet local villagers who have called Amazonia their home for generations. You will be able to step into a typical schoolhouse where the children are always happy to have visitors, and then stop by an area to see the women of this community who have a most amazing arts and craft market.

After the excursion, the staff will wish you farewell as you begin your departure. At the port of Nauta, our ground crew will be waiting to take you by our private vehicle back to the city of Iquitos, about 95 kilometres journey by paved road.

1) Only using local guides and office staff to both maximise local employment opportunities and minimise carbon footprints. Local guides also ensure you benefit from the intimate knowledge, passion and culture of the country you’re visiting.

2) Where possible, using locally owned and operated boutique hotels to maximise the return to the local community.

3) Chimu’s “Pass it on” programme has provided funding to hundreds of local community projects in Latin America. Our aim is to empower local communities, helping them to develop their own infrastructure for the future. Since 2006, we have been working with Kiva (a well-known Non-Governmental Organisation), providing hundreds of loans to local businesses all over South America.

4) In our pre tour information we provide a range of tips and advice on how to minimise your impact on both local environments and communities.

5) Chimu Adventures’ offices also take a number of sustainability measures including carbon offsets for company vehicles and most staff travel. Chimu Adventure’s internal processes are also structures to create a paperless office and to reduce waste. There are also internal programmes to help staff minimise their carbon footprint such as our staff bike purchase assistance plan which encourages office staff to commute to work via bicycle.
