Welcome

On your first morning with us, we recommend getting up early to appreciate one of the most important zones of the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. Never does nature seem more bountiful than in the tropics, and early rising is always rewarding since wildlife is most abundant and active with the rising of the sun. The exploration at Clavero Lake on board of our aluminium skiff, you will have the chance to get deep into the rainforest and its fantastic diversity of flora and fauna.
In the afternoon, you will head for this spectacular tributary spot within the Pacaya Samiria Reserve in our skiffs where you will also experience an unforgettable encounter with grey and pink river dolphins. As well, the day's birds will be out and flying gracefully across the Amazon skies.

Clavero lagoon & Belluda cano creek

One of the best ways to wake up in the Amazon is to go on an active excursion. This morning, go kayaking in the area known as Magdalena. There is also a nearby village so you are sure to see fisherman waking up to count their catches and locals getting from one place to another in their wooden canoes or boats.
In the afternoon, wildlife will greet you and the biodiversity you will experience will be outstanding. You will have the chance to enjoy some of the myriad bird species, colourful butterflies and other diverse insects, and noisy monkey troops, and when the night shift strikes, you’ll encounter a whole new world of adventure.

Magdalena & Dorado River

In the morning, you will have reached our main goal, the Pacaya River at the very heart of the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, Peru’s largest protected area with an annual rainfall of nearly 3,000 mL, by far the largest protected wetland reserve in the world. Filled with lakes, palm swamps, and streams, the reserve becomes a flooded forest in the rainy season and is sure to be one of the most beautiful places you’ll ever visit. You will also have the chance to swim in one of the pristine Amazon lagoons.

Our guides will take you upstream in kayaks; this will be a good chance to spot prehistoric looking iguanas that laze in the sun. Squirrel monkeys are very active at this time of the day, when they move in large noisy troops.

Pacaya Samiria National

On board our skiffs, you will visit the community of Puerto Miguel to meet local villagers who have called
Amazonia their home for generations. You may step into a typical schoolhouse where the children will be very happy to have visitors, and then stop by an area to see the women of this community who have a most amazing arts & craft market.
On our way from Nauta back to Iquitos airport, you will visit the Rescue & Rehabilitation Center of River Mammals (ACOBIA) where you will have the chance to meet baby manatees and learn about these wonderful and docile creatures and why they are on the endangered species list. You will also have the chance to pet and feed these kind manatees.

Our aim is to empower local communities, helping them to develop their own infrastructure for the future. Since 2006, we have been working with Kiva (a well-known Non-Governmental Organisation), providing hundreds of loans to local businesses all over South America.

4) In our pre tour information we provide a range of tips and advice on how to minimise your impact on both local environments and communities.

Chimu Adventure’s internal processes are also structures to create a paperless office and to reduce waste. There are also internal programmes to help staff minimise their carbon footprint such as our staff bike purchase assistance plan which encourages office staff to commute to work via bicycle. Currently almost half of our office based staff commute to work via bicycle.
