South America

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exciting trip to great locations Enjoyed the well planned trip to iconic locations. Travel plans faultless and accommodation enjoyable. Tours well organised and not too crowed unlike some of the major sites

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice taste of Buenos Aires, Victoria Falls and Rio This was our last week of a five week trip to Antarctica and Patagonia, before ending with this one. It was a nice way to round out the trip, getting to experience the history and culture of two major South American cities, and to spend two awesome days at Iguazu Falls. Chimu doesn't provide an escorted tour, but that was ok. They still set up all our hotels, transfers, city tours and adventures and that was very convenient. The drivers and tours were all on time and friendly and informative. We got to meet many like-minded tourists, and sometimes saw people more than once. The hotel in Buenos Aires was rather tired, badly in need of updating, but it was in a convenient location, close to the main square in the heart of the city. The lodge in the jungle near Argentina's Iguazu was great, and Rio's hotel, only a block from Copacabana beach was also very nice and convenient, with a rooftop bar and pool. Glad we got to see both sides of Iguazu Falls, as you get to see them from a different perspective in both countries. Add on the boat ride into two falls in Argentina, it's a blast! We did vary from Chimu's original itinerary just a bit, because once we crossed the border to see the Brazilian side of the falls, we didn't want to have to cross back to Argentina, just to retrieve luggage from our hotel, and then go back again to get to the Brazil airport. The local tour operators agreed and we took our luggage with us in the morning, left it in the van while at the falls, then stored it in a locker at the nearby awesome Bird Park, while spending time there before our evening flight to Rio. That worked great! The Bird Park is a really neat thing to see that highlights many of the Amazon's birds and butterflies. One word of advice, wear heavy duty sunscreen at the beach and make sure to reapply after a dip in the ocean. That sun is brutal! We were warned to be careful at the beach for petty crime, but we had no issues with that and really enjoyed the people, the local live music, the drinks and food!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Special holiday We travelled to Machu Picchu, the Amazon and the Galápagos Islands for three weeks. We saw some amazing sites but we needed four weeks to have really enjoyed the experience. For example, our 4 day Galapagos experience was actually only two days as we did not board the boat till the evening and we left the Islands at 8am on the fourth day. It was a similar experience with the Amazon journey. That said, the accommodation was all excellent, the transfers etc (except one) all went smoothly and the guides all spoke good English and were very knowledgeable. If we could have just slowed down the pace and had time to savour each destination it would have enhanced the trip. Oh well, we’ll just have to go back!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Chile and Argentina What a wonderful time we had in Chile and Argentine despite the disruptions in Santiago. In the Atacama Desert in Chile we had four amazing days with multiple tours co-ordinated by Chile Road. All the guides and drivers were to be commended on their courtesy, knowledge and overall making each tour one we will never forget. Likewise in Iquazu Falls and Mendoza in Argentina we had a similar experience in very different areas. Particularly we would like to recommend Mendoza to travellers - what a hidden gem with such diversity of activities from world class vineyards to amazing trekking in the Andes. Get the message out that this is one to add to the bucket list.
