From Puerto Montt, the gateway of the Andean fjords, you will be transferred to your accommodation in Puerto Varas. Known as ‘La Ciudad de las Rosas’ or ‘The City of Roses,’ Puerto Varas is located on the shores of Lake Llanquihue at the southern end of Chile’s Lakes District. Characterised by traditional German architecture, manicured gardens and the pristine lakeside scenery, Puerto Varas is a prime location for adventure sports.

Choose from the wide variety of full or half day excursions in this wonderful region of Chile. You have another whole full day to enjoy Puerto Varas. Choose from some of the options mentioned on day two or take a half day excursion around Lake Llanquihue to the town of Frutillar. Known as the UNESCO city of music thanks to its year-round program of musical events, Frutillar is undoubtedly one of Chile’s finest cities. Take some time to discover its beautiful houses and gardens, shop for souvenirs and take in magnificent views of the Osorno and Puntiagudo volcanos. (B,L,D)

You will travel by road and ferry to Chiloe Island, allowing you to enjoy the scenery and keep watch for birdlife during the ferry crossing. On Chiloe Island you will visit the village of Chacao, on the southern shore of the Chacao Channel. After a coffee stop, admire the colourful wooden buildings of the village and the Iglesia San Antonio de Chacao Church. Next you will cross the island to the city of Castro. There, colourful stilted houses called palafitos line the waterfront, and it’s home to one of Chiloe’s UNESCO world heritage listed churches. You will stay overnight in Castro in the deluxe accommodation of Tierra Chiloe. (B,D)

Choose from a wide variety of full or half day excursions to explore the island of Chiloe. Two options available include a half day tour of Castro’s stilt houses, Mercardo Yumbel craft market and local shipyards or a half day kayaking excursion to Pullao Marsh where you might spot migratory birds such as long-billed curlew, cormorants and flamingos as well as dolphins.
