Tortuguero Extension | Turtle Beach Lodge

Travel from San José, Costa Rica’s vibrant capital, leaving the city behind as you journey into the protected wilderness of Tortuguero National Park. The final approach to your lodge is part of the experience, travelling by boat along the winding canals and passing through the colourful Tortuguero Village before arriving at your jungle retreat.

On arrival at Turtle Beach Lodge, you will be welcomed with a refreshing cocktail before enjoying a delicious lunch. Take some time to settle in and discuss the range of tours and activities available during your stay.

Spend the remainder of the afternoon at leisure. Perhaps relax beside the pool, unwind in the peaceful surroundings, or simply take time to familiarise yourself with your home for the next couple of nights, surrounded by the sights and sounds of the rainforest.

Begin your day with an early morning guided canal tour, as the jungle awakens around you and the first signs of wildlife emerge along the waterways. Return to the lodge for a traditional Tico breakfast at the Turtle Restaurant, followed by a couple of hours to relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

Mid-morning, set out on a guided walking tour through the jungle. Your guide will introduce you to the remarkable flora and fauna of this tropical rainforest, while keeping a watchful eye for some of the park’s resident wildlife. Look out for howler and spider monkeys, sloths, toucans, green macaws, and many other fascinating species that call Tortuguero home.

Return to the lodge for lunch, with the remainder of the afternoon at leisure. Relax in a hammock, unwind beside the pool, or, if you prefer, speak with the reception team about arranging one of the many optional excursions available at an additional cost.

In the early evening, enjoy a buffet-style dinner in the candlelit Turtle Tavern. As the day draws to a close, take time to reflect on your first day surrounded by the natural beauty and abundant wildlife of Tortuguero National Park.

Wake to the sounds of the jungle coming to life around you and enjoy breakfast surrounded by the sights and sounds of the rainforest. The day is yours to relax and explore at your own pace, with a broad selection of optional tours available through reception. Choose from experiences such as a canopy tour, garden tour or kayaking excursion, or simply take time to unwind and enjoy the tranquil surroundings of the lodge (at an additional cost).

If you choose to venture into Tortuguero National Park once more, keep your eyes and ears alert for the abundant wildlife that inhabits this remarkable rainforest. Toucans, slaty-tailed trogons, colourful frogs and parrots are just some of the species you may encounter along the way.

You will depart your accommodation, stopping briefly in Tortuguero town for lunch before travelling to La Fortuna via Arenal. Famous for the Mistico Arenal Hanging Bridges near Lake Arenal Dam, Arenal provides two diverse ecosystems to explore in a twilight tour. The lowland and highland rainforests collide to provide a habitat for a diverse range of birdlife and animals including toucans, crested guans, sloths, tapirs, spider monkeys and even jaguars. Afterwards you will be transferred to your accommodation in La Fortuna, your final destination.
