CRUISE ITINERARY

Our crew will be expecting your arrival at the airport, then transfer all together in our comfortable private vehicle. We will start you off with a lunchbox as we begin the journey to Nauta. Once here you will enjoy a VIP greeting at the shores of the Maranon River where your vessel awaits.

In the afternoon you will visit the Fundo Casual. The walk at Fundo Casual jungle trail will take you deep into the rainforest on terra firme (non-flooded forest) where your guide will point out the dynamic creatures and vegetation of the Amazon.

In the evening you will explore the Nauta Cano Creek. You will skim the riverbanks for sloths, birds, dolphins, monkeys as well as caimans and spiders of all shapes and sizes.

Embarkation in Iquitos

In the morning you will cruise through Las Palmas, one of the most important zones of the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. The early morning hours are the best time of day to watch birds, observe their special displays and listen to their songs. We will jump on the skiffs and head to this area with large trees and old palm trees as well, these components favour the presence of several parrot species.

You will then explore Yanayacu, in the upper Amazon. This location is perfect for spotting caped herons, lesser kiskadees, great egrets and black collard hawk.

Lastly, you will visit the village of Yachay, where you will meet the local shaman, Carola. The role of shaman is often misunderstood in the west, associated with black magic, and spells. While these things all have their place, the actual practitioners are as varied as in any profession.

Las Palmas and Yachay

You will start the morning cruising the creeks of Yanayaquillo. This is also a popular dolphin feeding spot so we won´t be the only one
enjoying our happy meal here. We will also try piranha fishing.

Afterward you will arrive at the Amazon Confluence otherwise known as 'Union de los Rios'. here the Ucayali, Maranon and greater Amazon River meet. Each river is distinguishable by their different colour, making for fantastic photo opportunities.

Yanayaquillo and Amazon Confluence

In the morning you will disembark your vessel and bid farewell to your crew. You will then be taken by private vehicle to the port of Nauta, where the ground crew will be waiting to take you to Iquitos.

On our way from Nauta back to Iquitos airport, you will visit the Rescue & Rehabilitation Center of River Mammals (ACOBIA) where you will have the chance to meet baby manatees and learn about these wonderful and docile creatures and why they are on the endangered species list. Our land personnel will wait for you at the airport and give your boarding passes and help you check in.

Sustainability

Being environmentally accountable is a crucial part of our organisation. Chimu is currently striving towards using less paper, taking several initiatives to do so and tracking our progress along the way. Our goal: A paperless organisation. For this reason, all information given to you will be sent electronically. We encourage those who choose to travel with us to support our aspirations and actions and ask that you reconsider printing out documentation. To view these documents, you can download them to your iPad or portable computer before and during your trip.

Chimu is passionate and dedicated to sustainability measures and understands the crucial part sustainability plays within the tourism industry.

We use local guides and office staff to both maximise local employment opportunities and minimise carbon footprint. Local guides also ensure you benefit from the intimate knowledge, passion and culture of the country you’re visiting. Our guides are all highly qualified (most with university degrees) or equip with many years of experience and are paid above the standard wage. Whether it be our knowledgeable local guides, locally produced meals or the transport on tour, we do not use imported goods when local products are available. We aim to minimise our impact on the environment and give as much back as possible to the communities we work in.

Delfin Amazon Cruises has partnered with KUYAPA Foundation, engaging in a range of initiatives to protect the environment and support native communities. While many Amazon communities are largely self-sufficient, their remote locations severely limit access to basic necessities. Delfin offers support through donations of clothing, medical supplies and educational resources, as well as public works projects to improve community infrastructure. While visiting the many national parks, heritage sites, museums and landmarks our travellers are encouraged to explore whilst remaining culturally aware and sensitive. We further encourage you to buy appropriate souvenirs and discourage the buying of anything wrongfully made or taken from the environment i.e. shells and endangered species products. Information on how you can be environmentally conscious, and travel responsibly will be made available in our Travellers Guides and provided during your travels by guides and staff.
