Argentina Tourism Update: Oct 2022

Argentina Removes Travel Restrictions to International Travellers

Updated 4 Oct 2022.

As of April 2022, Argentina has reopened its borders to international tourism and removed vaccination, quarantine, and testing requirements. In April, the Argentinian government again revised the country’s entry requirements, with non-residents now only required to complete the Affidavit at least 48 hours before their trip and to present proof of Covid-19 travel insurance.

International tourists can travel throughout the country again and explore its diverse regions, unique culture, and stunning destinations.

The country of the End of the World reopened its borders on November 1 for travellers from all over the planet.

What Happens If I Get COVID in Argentina?

If you test positive in Argentina, the COVID isolation period is seven days for people who are fully vaccinated, or five days for people who are fully vaccinated and not showing any symptoms.

For those who aren’t fully vaccinated, and close contacts who aren’t vaccinated, you must quarantine for ten days and complete a PCR test after your isolation period before you can resume normal activities.

You can isolate in any private place, such as a hotel, guest house, or residence, but in some cases, the government will direct you to a dedicated hotel or hospital facility. You’ll be responsible for the cost. However, since Argentina requires all international travellers to have insurance that covers COVID, this should help with your expenses. Always review the details of your insurance policy before travelling and call your insurer with any questions.

In an emergency, you can also contact your country’s consulate office for immediate assistance.

COVID-19 Management in Argentina

Throughout the pandemic, the Argentinian government has utilised a variety of measures, not dissimilar to those used by the Australian government, to minimise the spread of the virus in the community. The country was largely off-limits to international travellers from March 2020 until reopening began in November 2021.

Nationwide lockdowns, curfews, social distancing, and domestic travel restrictions have been used in the past, but rules have wound back in recent months as case numbers have plummeted.

Argentina began rolling out its vaccination campaign in late 2020, initially focused on its health workers. The general population began to receive doses in February 2021. At the time of writing (April 2022), Argentina has fully vaccinated approximately 81% of its population – one of the most successful vaccination campaigns in Latin America so far.

As with most places in the world, hospitality venues such as bars and nightclubs have reopened and ticketed events have resumed. Masks are recommended in indoor venues and on public transport, allowing travellers to once again experience the vibrant Argentinian culture.
