Embark on an extraordinary journey from Ushuaia to Antarctica and beyond to the ultimate goal of exploring the Antarctic Circle. Enjoy your Antarctica expedition cruise onboard the well-appointed MS Seaventure which takes just 138 passengers, which means a more intimate experience and allows maximum time off the ship experiencing the wonders of the white continent, with twice-daily shore excursions and landings.
As you navigate through the Drake Passage and along the Antarctic Peninsula, the aim to join the elite group of explorers who have crossed the Antarctic Circle at 66°33’S. Encounter dramatic sea ice, pristine landscapes, and incredible wildlife, including whales, penguins, seals, and seabirds. Celebrate this rare achievement and uncover the secrets of this remote region.
After a friendly welcome at the airport and a transfer to the included hotel, take some time to unwind or explore the southernmost city in the world, Ushuaia.
Our evening briefing at your hotel is your opportunity to ask questions and meet some of your fellow explorers.
Spend your morning relaxing at the hotel, or visit a museum or the Argentinean leather markets in Ushuaia, before or just relaxing at the hotel until our mid-afternoon escort to the ship. Our Expedition Team and ship staff will welcome you on board and get you settled in, followed by a safety and orientation briefing and our Captain’s welcome dinner. We’re on our way to Antarctica!
Join our Polar Experts as they share their vast knowledge of Antarctica, from its enchanting wildlife to its bold history. Participate in our pioneering Citizen Science program, or sit back and take in this fabled journey while catching glimpses of rarely-seen wildlife. Keep your binoculars handy to identify the many seabirds that escort our ship as we cross the Antarctic Convergence into Antarctica’s waters and noticeably cooler temperatures.
Over time, the volcanic activity of the South Shetland Islands has created a geology unlike any other. Here, you can expect a spectacular display of mountains, glaciers, and wildlife including Chinstrap and Gentoo penguins; and it’s not uncommon to share the water’s edge with Elephant and Fur seals. Whales are often spotted as well. So, we’ll settle into our Zodiacs and kayaks, and spend most of our day exploring. Whether on land or sea, in Zodiac or kayak, be prepared for a fully immersive introduction to this incomparable part of the world.
Heading south across the Bransfield Strait, we begin to see the breathtaking outline of the Antarctic Peninsula. Wildlife sightings, including penguins, whales, and fur seals, become more frequent, as do dramatic ice sculptures. Should Antarctica’s unpredictable weather and ice permit, you will be among the lucky few to cross the Antarctic Circle, where the sun remains in the sky for 20 hours a day. Following a tradition first established by sailors crossing the equator, we’ll celebrate the occasion by… (Sorry, you just have to be there), before heading onward toward any number of historic and rarely visited British survey bases, after which we turn back north.
Heading north, we’ll explore all the Antarctic Peninnsula has to offer, including any number of spectacular bays and famed harbors, maneuvering through dramatic channels as we traverse the wildlife-rich waters, encountering a wide variety of lively penguins, seals, and whales along the rugged coastlines and in the sea. There are always great opportunities to stop at several active scientific bases and historic landing sites along the way, as we leave no opportunity unseized-upon in our quest to explore the very best of this magical place.
We leave this magical place and make our way north, once again heading across the Antarctic Convergence and the Drake Passage. We have one last hurrah as we celebrate the conclusion of our expedition with a special slideshow and a final meal together.
With huge smiles on weary, content faces, we disembark in the morning, letting you catch a flight to Buenos Aires or stay in Ushuaia for more sights and adventure.
*Please note: Cruise itinerary is subject to change depending on weather conditions, ice conditions and other factors.
With the highest ice class rating and modern German-Japanese design, the MS Seaventure offers a smooth and comfortable experience across the Drake. Taking only 138 guests, this ship offers a friendly and welcoming Antarctic experience, paired with a high crew-to-guest ratio, gourmet dining, and a huge wraparound deck, ideal for photography and citizen science. Speed and comfort Optimised entirely for Antarctic voyages, the heavy steel of the MS Seaventure cuts through the Drake Passage with ease. State-of-the-art marine retractable stabilisers reduce movement significantly inside the ship, rendering the voyage across the Drake not only more efficient but smoother than most other expedition ships. Education and science focused Citizen science is world-class on the MS Seaventure with six separate projects throughout the journey. Each guest on board can be involved and gain a deep understanding of the location whilst sending data back to significant scientific organisations to help with their critical research on Antarctica. Each journey also offers onboard scientific and educational lectures. Friendly and inclusive travel environment This is not an 'us and them' cruise; your expedition crew will dine with guests during meal times, sharing their personal insights into Antarctica and getting to know the people they are travelling with. Breaking down walls and building a more family feel as you travel to the most enigmatic place on earth - together. 7:1 traveller to expedition staff ratio Thanks to a 7:1 traveller to expedition staff ratio, coordinating excursions is the number one priority and unless weather conditions prevent it, guests will spend up to six hours a day off the ship and immersed in Antarctica. Spacious outdoor viewing A full wraparound deck, close to the water, is a must have in Antarctica and a photographer's dream. The MS Seaventure's deck is on the lower decks, offering brilliant viewing of wildlife and Antarctica as it happens in 360 degrees. That way, you won't be stuck in only one space and when the captain announces ‘orcas’, you can be outside in a flash! Luxury amenities and inviting cabins The rooms are designed to cater for all tastes and include many balcony rooms on the higher levels, away from ocean spray that can be encountered on the Drake Passage, offering higher comfort and security for deluxe travellers. You’ll also enjoy exceptional cuisine and lots of common areas for lectures and socialising. Enhance your immersive experience with an optional activity in Antarctica whilst travelling on the MS Seaventure. Kayaking & Camping are at an extra cost but, due to their popularity, are limited in space and can book out quickly. WHY WE LOVE THE MS SEAVENTURE
