TRAVELLING TO Patagonia

Why visit? Located at the southern end of South America, Patagonia is a region shared by Argentina and Chile. From snow-capped mountains to picturesque fjords, stunning lakes and impressive volcanoes, a Patagonia tour really has it all.

While active holidaymakers will be able to give their hiking boots a good work out trekking or horse riding through Torres Del Paine, biking through Valdez Peninsula or skiing down the slopes of Tierra del Fuego, there is also plenty to do for the more slow-paced traveller.

Staring at the magnificent views, cruising the Fjords of Chile, or visiting one of the many wineries are just some of the equally exciting but less exertive activities to be enjoyed on a tour across the dramatic, windswept settings of Patagonia.

Greg Carter, co-founder of Chimu Adventures, travelled with his family to Patagonia, read more about their adventures here.

How to get there? Travellers from the United States have some of the best air access in the world to Latin America. Flights are available from most major cities, as well as fantastic connections through hubs such as Los Angeles, Dallas, Houston, Chicago, Atlanta, New York and Miami. All major US carriers have regular flights to Patagonia via Buenos Aires.

Patagonia

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nature on a grand scale The logistics of the "Tailor made trip" worked smoothly. All expeditions, transfers and pickups were as planned. My journey included both tough hikes and light adventure.Torres del Paine National Park was a wonderful, active experience. We were blessed with perfect weather. I saw lots of wildlife including a mother puma with 2 cubs, at relatively close range. Available activities included a range of fitness levels and interests. I was impressed with our guides.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredible journey We did the overland Patagonia trip and loved driving through the amazingly varied, but universally beautiful, landscapes of the region. We saw temperate rainforest, the ‘seven lakes drive’, vineyards/orchards, volcanoes, mountains, wild rivers and the Patagonian Steppe. Our vehicle was great, guides were sensational, we stayed at some very atmospheric places and visited little towns seemingly in the middle of nowhere, we saw lots of birds and other wildlife, the hiking was excellent and we learned so much about Chile and Argentina. This was a great trip and we would thoroughly recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stunning Torres del Paine Initial communications and itineraries were concise; our drivers on time and very friendly and efficient. Hotel Las Torres in Torres del Paine was very comfortable; excursions and guides were outstanding. Their love of their work and country shone through which ensured a very memorable experience for us.
