Chimu launches Peru flood aid initiatives

Sydney, 23 March 2017 – Chimu Adventures, Australia’s leading Latin America specialist, has launched several initiatives to provide support to the hundreds of thousands affected by the floods and landslides that hit Peru last week, causing severe damage and disruption across the country’s highland regions and coastal areas.

As part of the aid initiatives, Chimu has organised a fundraiser through its not-for-profit ‘Make a Difference’ (MAD) project that will assist and support the efforts undertaken by the Peruvian Red Cross in the impacted areas.

The Peruvian Red Cross has activated emergency teams in Santa Ana, Chiclayo, Chimbo, San Jacinto and Tambo where Red Cross volunteers are providing first aid, pre-hospital assistance and helping people connect with separated family members.

On top of the fund, Chimu is also providing direct on-the-ground support through their local operations office with Chimu staff volunteering to help those in need ensuring the availability of food, water, clothes, towels and hygiene products.

‘Our thoughts are with the residents impacted by these devastating floods’ said Greg Carter, co-founder of Chimu Adventures.

‘Having operated in Peru for decades, we very much consider ourselves as part of the community and therefore see it as our priority to support the relief efforts of the Peruvian Red Cross while our local team continues to provide the on the ground support needed to help those affected’ he adds.

Chimu Adventures in conjunction with MAD Project has a successful track record of supporting efforts in countries the tour operator travels to, helping to make a difference to challenged communities, the environment and historical preservation.
