2018 World’s Greatest 100 Places

Sydney, Friday 31st August 2018

Last week, TIME magazine announced its list of the 2018 World’s Greatest 100 Places. Nominations from hotels, restaurants, theme parks, museums, bars, parks and cruises were assessed in terms of sustainability, innovation, influence, quality and originality. The results in the top 100 cover 48 countries and six continents and are divided into the categories of ‘To Visit, ‘To Stay’ and ‘To Eat and Drink.’

Latin America and Polar specialists, Chimu Adventures, are thrilled to report that they can incorporate four of the hotels mentioned on the prestigious ‘To Stay’ list into their tailor made itineraries in Latin America and have Antarctica itineraries aboard the luxury cruise ship also featured in this category. Chimu co-founder Greg Carter, explains: ‘Incredible experiences are something that we strive for at Chimu. Offering unique accommodation that is representative of its area is something that we have focused on since our advent and it is fantastic to see some of the hotels and cruise ships we work closely with in such an acclaimed list.”

Here are the five 2018 World’s Greatest 100 Places which Chimu Adventures can offer to their travellers:

Illa Experience, Quito, Ecuador

Opening just last December, this boutique hotel in the World Heritage Site of Quito dates back to the 18th century and the restoration process was engineered so that each of the three floors represents an era in Ecuador’s history. Eight activities are available to guests which include painting and chocolate sampling. The aim is to offer real interactions with real Quiteños. More than just a stopover, Chimu’s Discover Quito itinerary includes three nights at the hotel and a full exploration of Quito.

Atix Hotel, La Paz, Bolivia

La Paz is a destination to watch in the coming months especially with this latest accolade. In Quecha, its name means ‘One who thrives.’ Most of Chimu’s tours to Bolivia, for example, Bolivia Encompassed , include a stay in La Paz and your Chimu Destination Specialist can incorporate a stay at Atix Hotel.

EcoCamp Patagonia, Torres del Paine, Chile

Sustainability and, more recently, inclusivity, are the focal points of this glamping experience in the mighty Torres del Paine National Park. Fully powered by renewable energy sources, EcoCamp can now do hikes for visually impaired guests and there is an all-terrain wheelchair called the ‘Joëlette’ which can take users across the rugged trails of the national park. Chimu Adventures Torres del Paine Discovery is four days of cosy lodging and park experiences.

Awasi Iguazu, Puerto Iguazu, Argentina

Opening in 2018, this highly luxurious resort is just 20 minutes from Iguazú Falls and is surrounded by lush Argentine rainforest. Villas have a plunge pool, deck, private guide and 4wd so that guests can explore in their own time. Select a deluxe hotel option on Chimu’s Iguazu in Style tour.

Le Lapérouse, Antarctica cruise ship

This vessel was launched for the 2018/2019 season and is the height of luxury cruising with 24-hour butlers and a Michelin starred chef. Jump aboard Chimu’s New Zealand Sub Antarctic Islands and Macquarie Luxury Cruise to experience all of this. The underwater lounge, which has portholes just below the water line highlighting the marine life swimming beneath the surface, is a huge draw.

Chimu Adventures can fully customise any itinerary in Latin America to include the above hotels and can arrange all travel logistics.
