Highlights Include: 

Punta del Inca Hike- Take a van to Guatín, a grazing area and junction point of the Puritama and Purifica rivers, and source of the Vilama River. There, walk along a canyon known as the Valley of the Cacti due to the existence of giant cacti. Cut cross the canyon crossing the river several times and descending along different waterfalls.

Tambo Bike Ride - Bike ride to the Catarpe Valley. Ride up to Cuchabrache, through an old road that crosses the Salt Ridge.  Ride through plaster and crystallized salt creeks. This exploration includes seeing part of the local culture and petroglyphs, as well as the San Isidro chapel.

Cyebca del Salar - Leave in a van to Toconao, located to the south of San Pedro de Atacama. Walk to the village square and then through an area of vegetable gardens. Finally, take a van to the Chaxa Lagoon, located in the Los Flamencos National Reserve, an ideal place for bird watching within Atacama’s Salt Flat.

Cucuter - Horseback ride to the Moon Valley, explore its clay grounds, and see landscapes that seem to be from another world. Afterwards, go for lunch to the ayllu in Cúcuter, an oasis whose colors contrast with the desert landscape and where the whitish colors of Atacama salt flat begin to appear.

Arrive at Calama airport in the morning, pickup and transfer to Explora Atacama. The journey is just over one hour, on arrival you will settle in before an exquisite lunch.
Time to relax in the hotel and enjoy its facilities.

Arrive Atacama Desert

Explora Atacama have a set of activities where you can choose from onsite, allowing you to create your own personalised experience deep in the Atacama Desert. Below are suggested options you may like to choose from through-out your stay.

After breakfast you will head to Catarpe Valley for some biking through the Valley and with spectacular views of the Licancabur Volcano in the distance. Lunch at the hotel.
In the afternoon you will head to the Atacama salt flats, located at 45 minutes where you will enjoy the blue waters of the Cejar Lagoons, famous for their mineral and salt content that will allow you to float surrounded by the impressive surroundings of volcanos and the dessert while the sky turns into pastel colors asn the sun sets.
Back to the hotel for dinner. After dinner, around 9pm you can do the one-hour Astronomy tour which takes place at the observatory deck, located at 5 minutes from the hotel. You will have an unforgettable experience exploring the Atacama night sky, one of the clearest on Earth.

Exploring the Atacama Desert

You will depart before 6am and head 90 km Northwest to the Tatio Geysers, located at 4,300 mts above the sea level which made them the highest geothermal field in the world. Set off in the early morning to see the 100 geysers erupt water and let off steam to heights of up to 50 metres. On the way back to the town, drive downhill through a wonderful landscape where you can spot guanacos, vicuñas, flamingo-like birds and rodents. After a nice outdoor breakfast, you will optionally enjoy the Bathing in the Termas de Puritama.
This afternoon, travel across Cordillera de la Sal (Salt Mountain Range) to reach the Valle de la Luna (Valley of the Moon), one of the main attractions of this region. Located 19km from San Pedro de Atacama, the valley's landscape resembles the surface of the moon with small but sharp crested hills created by the wind. You will visit in the late afternoon when the setting sun brings out the best of the valley's incredible colours.

We use local guides and office staff to both maximise local employment opportunities and minimise carbon footprint. Local guides also ensure you benefit from the intimate knowledge, passion and culture of the country you’re visiting.
